Releasing in the Summer of 2021, Seagate have announced the FireCuda 530 M.2 SSD at SG21.
Currently only officially announced for high end gaming PC’s the FireCuda7530 has a jaw dropping read rate of 7.3 gigabytes per second.
See the specs below:
This speed eclipses the PS5’s 5.5GB/s by around 25%. Meaning on paper this drive is faster than the PS5. However, this may not be the case. The custom controller on the PS5 is able to compress the data, so in fact could potentially process 8-9GB of compressed data in the same time.
The FireCuda 530 still has a great bandwidth, and we hope it could be the go to drive for when the PS5 enables internal storage upgrades. It won’t be cheap though. $490 for 2TB almost as much as the console itself!
Watch this space for news on whether or not this drive passes Sony’s certification for use in the console as well as when Sony enables the feature. Will you be upgrading?
