E3 2016: Microsoft Press Conference Summary and Round-Up

Microsoft were the first hardware guys up this year, and honestly, their conference was pretty great. There were some lulls and I didn’t care for the Minecraft section at all, but they had some great games at their show. Here’s a summary of all the announcements:

  • Xbox One S announced, price $299, launches in August.
  • Gears of War 4
    • Cross-platform, PC and Xbox One.
    • Horde 3.0 Mode co-op demo shown.
    • Play Anywhere (details below).
    • October 11 release date.
  • Play Anywhere announced (similar to PlayStation’s cross-buy) allows you to play across Windows 10 and Xbox One, buy the game once and you get it on both
  • Special Edition Gears of War Elite wireless controller revealed.
  • Killer Instinct
    • New character, General Raam from Gears.
    • Season 3 will be part of Play Anywhere scheme.
  • Forza Horizon 3
    • Xbox One and Windows 10 exclusive.
    • Gameplay shown, different ways to play it.
    • 4-player co-op campaign.
    • Part of Play Anywhere scheme.
    • September 27 release date.
  • ReCore shown, Xbox and Windows 10.
  • Final Fantasy XV – Graphically looks amazing, gameplay looks pretty good.
  • The Division DLC announced, Xbox One first, June 28.
  • Battlefield 1 trailer, EA Access members play from October 13.
  • Xbox Live new features
    • Background music for Live and Cortana.
    • Clubs announced.
    • Wanted ads to ask gamers to play with you.
    • Arena – tournament platform, EA bringing some games to it e.g. FIFA.
  • Minecraft
    • Minecraft Realms add-on announced, let’s you create a world.
    • Friendly update announced that allows communication across communities.
    • New texture packs, add-ons etc.
    • Oculus support.
  • Controller customisation
  • ID@Xbox game called Inside from creators of Limbo, looks pretty cool. Xbox One, out June 29.
    • Indie reel shown.
    • Ark game part of Play Anywhere.
    • We Happy Few shown, first on Xbox.
  • Standalone Witcher 3 card game, Gwent announced. Exclusive beta for Xbox One and PC.
  • Tekken 7 out early 2017.
    • Live Gold members get Tekken Tag Tournament 2 free this month.
  • Dead Rising 4 Xbox One and PC exclusive announced.
  • Scalebound gameplay shown, out 2017, exclusive. Looks pretty clunky.
  • Sea of Thieves from Rare, Xbox One and PC, 2 trailers. Looks quite fun, pirate game.
  • State of Decay 2, Xbox One and PC exclusive shown.
  • Halo Wars 2 trailer shown, Xbox One and PC exclusive, out February 21, 2017. Beta has already started.
  • Project Scorpio
    • New Xbox One console confirmed, but not shown.
    • VR compatible and 4K gaming compatible.
    • 8 cores, 6 TFlops, 320GB/s memory bandwidth, gaming across generations(?).
    • All games work across all three consoles.
    • Release date Holiday 2017.
