Every console generation has it’s best year, and from what has been announced so far, it looks like 2016 may be the best year for this console generation. There is no smoke without fire, and there appears to be a lot of smoke. So why do we think that 2016 might be so good?

E3 looks like it will be more exciting than previous years…

This is definitely the main reason for why I’m thinking 2016 will be especially exciting for gamers of all consoles. You very rarely get games announced for this year at E3, but if you look at who’s going to E3, you can’t help but get excited. Aside from the usual suspects, Bethesda and Square Enix will also be holding conferences at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo. If that doesn’t get you salivating, it could mean we get new details for games like Fallout 4, Prey 2, Doom, Final Fantasy XV, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, and maybe some surprises. A bigger surprise will be if any of these games are coming in 2015, which is why we think if anything is shown/announced, it’ll be for 2016.

Uncharted 4 has been delayed…

Let’s be honest here, Naughty Dog is a fantastic developer, and every game they’ve made that I can think of has been great. The announcement of a delay was disappointing, but it means 2016 may be even better.

It’ll be over 2 years since the new consoles launched…

The PS4 and Xbox One released in November 2013, which meant developers had been working on launch games for the consoles. That means that the developers that worked on Killzone Shadowfall, inFamous Second Son (to an extent), and Knack, have had over 2 years to think up and develop something new. I’m also including Sony Santa Monica in this because God of War: Ascension released around 6 months before the PlayStation 4 launched, so in some ways they’re even more likely to announce a game coming out in early 2016.

Obligatory Last Guardian mention…

This might be releasing in 2016, or might never be releasing…*sigh*.
