The PlayStation Experience is over for another year, and whilst 2015’s show was nowhere near as grand or spectacular as the inaugural conference in 2014, it did have some good aspects. However, there is one thing that Sony needs to know, PlayStation fans do not give a damn about MOBAs.
If you have no idea what I’m talking about, watch the PSX 2015 conference, and then you’ll understand. If you can’t be bothered, I’ll put it simply, Sony ended the conference on Epic’s new MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) game, Paragon, when they have so many more interesting titles in development. It’s pretty clear that they did this to suck up to Epic, perhaps to secure some sort of timed exclusivity for the game, or maybe another game from the studio, but the fact remains, we don’t care.
PSX 2015 on the whole was a pacing disaster. Shawn Layden trolled the audience by coming on stage wearing a Crash Bandicoot t-shirt in the first instance, and the show started off with an Uncharted 4 clip, which was followed swiftly by a gameplay trailer for Final Fantasy VII Remake. Sony, you need to demote whoever was in charge of this conference because nothing made sense.
- Why didn’t you end with Final Fantasy VII Remake???
- Why did you fill the show with indie games, and neglect your own IPs???
- Why was Gio Corsi such an ass???
- Why did you end on literally the most boring game of the show???
Sony made a lot of mistakes this year with their conference, but most of it was to do with the pacing and the timing of each announcement. Paragon was not a big announcement, Ni No Kuni 2 was, who was in charge of this show? It genuinely makes me angry that the contents of the conference were good, but they were sorted in such a bad way that it creates a negative aura around the entire conference.
Please don’t make the same mistake next year Sony.
