Deus Ex Remastered; A Game All Would Buy, A Possible GamesCom Announcement?

Deus Ex. Whenever this game is mentioned, someone reinstalls it on to their computer. This is a gamer meme that started out as a bit of a joke, but it’s probably true. The original Deus Ex is often thought of as one of the best games ever made, and still stands out from the rest of the franchise. When the game originally released in June 2000, it had some truly innovative features. It was one of the first few games to mesh the RPG and FPS genre really well, and provided an almost open-world environment for you to explore. The amount of freedom is probably one of the best aspects of the game, because you could do almost everything you could think of. See a robot and think you might be able to hack it? You probably can. It was this freedom that made the game so good, despite the main character, JC Denton, looking like he had his head placed in a trash compacter.

So could this be the next remastered game? Granted it would take a lot of effort from Eidos’ to upgrade this game enough to make it “remastered”, however I honestly think that it wouldn’t be a bad decision at all. Capcom has already shown that they are willing to do this for their older games, announcing a Resident Evil Remake for consoles and PC. If Eidos aren’t at least thinking about this, they are completely stupid, although knowing that their parent company, Square Enix, still hasn’t done a remake for Final Fantasy VII doesn’t fill me with much hope. On the other hand, we have already seen the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, and the Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition recently announced.

However, whilst in the middle of writing this article I came across this PlayStation GamesCom 2014 teaser:

This teaser doesn’t show much, but the music in the background is the same one used in Deus Ex: Human Revolution’s main theme. Does this mean we could see a Deus Ex announcement at GamesCom 2014? I’d argue that if there was a remaster announced, it would more than likely be Deus Ex: Human Revolution Remastered rather than the original Deus Ex. It could be nothing, or it could be everything. What do you guys think?
