The Last of Us is perhaps the best game to come out of the last generation of consoles. However, with substantial rumours (update: now confirmed to be coming to PS4) that there might be a next generation version of the game for PS4, is there really any point? Hear me out.
The Last of Us already looks incredible on the PS3, and I just can’t see enough of an increase in graphical fidelity with the jump to PS4. I have no doubt the move to next gen will mean the game will look a hell of a lot better, and will probably fix the frame-rate issues that some people seem to think it had (never really noticed it myself really). And yes, it would add another much needed title to the very basic offering of PS4 games, which I would probably play all over again. It would probably also sell an absolute crapload on PS4 as well, but without a significant increase in content, (and we all know that’s not going to happen) it’s not really worth the price of a full game.
Now instead of charging full price or even $40 for the game, if Sony provides an upgrade option for $10 or $20, that would be something worth paying for. There’s also a chance that the game may shift some PS4 hardware, as there are many gamers that were reluctant to buy a PS3 so late in the console’s lifecycle just to play The Last of Us. However, the PS4 is relatively new so that thought won’t cross anyone’s mind. In addition to this, there are gamers who have already “switched sides” with the introduction of the PS4 and Xbox One, so these people may have completely missed out on the game.
All I’m saying is, don’t charge full price just because you can!
