Sony announced at their CES 2014 keynote yesterday, that the PlayStation 4, their brand new games console has sold 4.2 million units to consumers in around 1 month worldwide. The console has only been launched in North America, and parts of Europe, but as of 28th December, it is already obliterating competition from the Wii U and Xbox One. The PS4 released in North America on November 15th, but in Europe on November 29th, and is yet to launch in Japan.
In comparison, Microsoft recently announced that the Xbox One has sold 3 million units to consumers, and Nintendo’s latest figures put the Wii U at just 3.91 million units worldwide to date. The PlayStation 3 took around 6 months to sell a similar amount of units, which shows just how much the price of the console matters, but also that respecting the gamers will pay dividends in the future.
