Pachter: Game Companies Incredibly Greedy, Morons & Idiotic to Charge $70 for Games

On a recent episode of the Pachter Factor, Michael Pachter laid out the real reason why the price of games is increasing and it’s not because development costs have gone up.

Pachter determined that the cost of developing games has not increased substantially from 2019 to 2021. The tools to create games have reduced and also easier in terms of the speed of tools such as Unity and Unreal Engine.

He also states that saying the “development costs increased is a cop out” the real reason for the price hike is simply because the market will allow it. More and more gamers will justify the cost, which means even more developers and game publishers will do the same.

The ‘hidden’ way games would get you to pay more for them was with DLC and special editions as well as more story content and Pachter feels this was the smarter way to do it.

He then went on to say “they will learn their lesson” inferring that the price hike will cause a reduction in sales particularly early in a games launch.

Do you agree? Is $70 restrictive for most people what about in Europe or Australia where the game prices are closer to $90 with this price hike?
